For a couple of years I compiled a list of Nina Sightings from people who had spotted her out in the world. It was just something fun to do… Eventually I took it down because the entries weren’t coming in very much anymore, but it’s still an interesting read.

| Michael Bartel in Germany | Sighting: I saw Nina in Zurich/Switzerland beginning her tour >1001 Indische Nächte” (1001 Indian nights) in the Bernhardt Theatre. She was not performing a rock concert, but spiritual chanting, which lasted 2 P hours. Some few people just came to shout at her. Maybe they did not know who she really is, anyway she was not impressed by them, and went on. She was just lovely and her outstanding voice came out fantastically accompanied only by traditional instruments. I managed to take her photo, and she fed me with bananas! What a smiling woman, she seemed to be very happy!Some people were bringing flowers to her – and she was so near to everybody. Some of her films were being shown, presenting Nina loosing her hair in the Himalayas. I think she found herself and finally did the split, telling people about the things she really cares about. And I think some really understand – and now she performs for them. On our side a middle-aged indian couple was listening to the performance. They understood the Hindi and Sanskrit words…om namah shivay! | |

| Andy in Vienna, Austria / San Diego, USA | When I was a 17 year-old I was studying for my maths test the next day suddenly Nina was talking from the radio, she gave and interview. Nina, oh my God, suddenly spoke to Andy…to Andy and that lucky little Andy was me. She invited me via radio to her concert going on in a couple of days in Vienna, Austria. I met her back stage and had the opportunity to talk to her. She was the first one to tell me about Babaji. Thanks for that Nina. I met her again when ever she gave a concert in Vienna which was twice following that first one. The last time I saw her I gave her a book of Thomas Bernhard, the most important author in the german literature of the 20th century. That’s kind of thanks for introducing me Babaji. I like her muchly. It’s just because she is her and nobody else. Thanks for being Nina, Nina. The occasion was her Chicago concert supporting the “Nina Hagen In Ecstasy” album, and let me tell you she absolutely BLEW MY MIND! First of all the crowd was perhaps the coolest assembly of freaks Chicago has ever seen, almost everyone seemed to be high on something, and highest of all was NINA HAGEN! From the moment she descended from a spaceship, singing some sort of impossibly beautiful aria, everybody there LEFT THEIR BODIES! She proceeded to take us to heaven, hell, and back again, changing costumes and hairpieces repeatedly along the way (including a little bondage number with a teddybear attached to her crotch!). She played most of her new songs on the album of the same name, which i hadn’t bought yet. So I didn’t know those songs. She also did her usual menagerie of faces. She passed around in the crowd a big bowl filled with fruits, cookies and incense sticks while singing. That was nice of her. She also talked about hell. For her, hell is like a civil servant’s office/cubicle with eyes all over the walls. I like it when she talks like that. She did a faster version of Cosma Shiva, did My Way, started doing Zarah but then stopped and said she was fucking tired of singing that song (that was funny!). She finished her concert with African Reggae – well I was in heaven!!! I love that song. She is so beautifull our Nina, although sometimes she can look alot like a drag queen too!Nina revient au QuÈbec le plus vite possible, tu nous manques!!!!Je t’aime ma chÈrie. Bisou. |

| David Knight in San Francisco | I met Nina the first time back stage at Bimbos when she was doing a caberet type show here in SF…I had flowers for her. she gave me a kiss, signed a Nina for President tee-shirt I bought at a previous show and also signed her CD called, Rock Aus Deautchland that I bought in Berlin. The next time I saw her was in Hollywood before her show at Billboard live last year. I was at the ticket window buying tickets for the show and there she was out front talking to some fans. I waved at her and she waved back, then she got in a white Mercedes that had pulled up and she sped off. I also talked with her at a benefit she did in Berkeley last summer. People were standing around before the show and all of a sudden she came around a corner wearing a red Sari and she was barefoot (cute feet) – she sang all the songs from her new album (the Hindu music) and after the show I had my picture taken with her for $10 to go to charity of course.By the way, if you don’t have the new album, you should get it. | Gerald E. Handel, Jr. & Kathryn Evans in New Haven, CT, USA | We saw Nina at the new club, “Life” in New York City this past July – and the show was AWESOME!!! Nina sang for about two hours straight. It was such an incredible deal for the very affordable ticket price of $15.00. The very day we found out about the tickets, we just went and bought them. We have a friend in the City who thoughtfully called us to let us know that Nina was there that night. She only found this out by reading a billboard on she saw on her way home from work. We met a guy in line outside of the club who travelled all the way from Texas just to see her – but he was underage and could not get in. He bought a ticket anyway and kept it. I wish we could have gotten to tell her, but it was difficult to get near anyone to help us to help him. There supposedly was a warm-up act that cancelled. We didn’t mind. We were only there to se NINA. She rocked. She came out barefoot in a multicolored sari, was handed roses, stepped gracefully up to the stage before a wildly anticipating crowd. Hooting and hollering “Nina for President” and “Nina for Everything.” It was a difficult crowd to control, however she asked for our attention to join her in a prayer that she learned in India. She knelt before her alter of pictures of a hospital that she is funding for people in India. She gave these pictures freely for everyone in the audience to pass around, however, they never made it to us. We would have kept them, too. She abruptly shed her slinky sari, put on a pair of platform funkettes, and revealed a cellestial glow-in-the-dark pantsuit straight from the heavens of Glam. Appropriately, she opened her set with “Hail Mary”. She is very conscoious of the universe as well as the society we live in. She expresses this through her music. Issues about health, HIV, will power, anti-drug, animal rights, aliens, and ecology – to only mention a few – are main subjects of her songs. The next few songs were new to us. We heard rumors that she is in search of a producer for her next project. We can’t wait. After that we heard “Polution Pirates”, “I’m going to live the life”, “New York, New York”, “Nina for President”, “My Sweet Lord”, Two songs by Nirvana, “Zero-Zero UFO”, We learned that Cosma Shiva is now 17 years old and working as an actress in Germany. We were so happy to be there. We only wished that there were enough room for us to dance. The crowd was borderlining on becoming angry due to the talking between songs, but she successfully was able to tame them with her kind words of wisdom. | Dogwood in New York City | It was wonderful to behold her last night. I was very happy to hear her voice in excellent ondition. When I heard her in 1994, that wasn’t the case. Nina has such big energy, but I think she holds back with a crowd that’s stingy with theirs. That was the case at Life last night. It was your typical mob of black-clad, bored/boring New Yorkers staring ahead and waiting for something to happen. Blech! Nina came out in her cosmos outfit and rocked the place with a lot of new material. A lot of this stuff has a hard, metalesque edge to it–very nice. Excellent guitar. One of the best songs was this “Return to the Mother” piece that was great. The only “hit” was New York New York which she was totally not into. Right about there I felt the show became kind of perfunctory. Kind of like she was saying to the energy vampires Piss off. There were only a handful of painted queens there–myself included. That bummed me out, but didn’t surprise me. The 90’s are the 50’s! But still, nothing like that voice and that presence. Bless her. | |

| Dogwood in New York City | In 1994 (I think it was) in San Francisco I went to buy a ticket to see la Nina sing in between acts in a play about a Weimar cabaret singer (can’t remember the name). I went on lunch break from my job and was standing in the lobby, in front of the box office waiting. There were only the people who worked there standing around. She appeared on a staircase in the lobby, leaning over the railing and asking a question. I could not believe it was her. She just stood there, staring at me, but looking me straight in the eyes, looking beautiful. I was too awed to speak. Eye contact like that is one of the most exciting things to me. And coming from a goddess like her…it was so grand and left me floating on air. What the world needs now is Nina Hagen. Bless her. I am going to see her tonight (7/22) at the club Life in NYC and hope to connect. | Drew in L.A.: | i met nina at a lecture she gave at the california institute of the arts two years ago. she talked about the one and only time she did lsd-with the purpose being to try to meet god.she said she did and, because i am basically on the same quest, i wanted to know more about her experience. i asked her what god looked like and she told me he looked alot like me(im assuming because she said the person who god was “talking through” was polish with long hair and i am half polish with long hair)after the lecture i had her carve her name in my guitar.a while later that day i ran into her in one of the cal arts hallways and she said she lived in l.a. now and asked if we were gonna see each other around. i was like “i hope so!” she invited me to go to a unitarian church service in santa monica the following weekend. i went and she looked trippier than usual cause she didnt have a wig on just two little pigtails and her hair is kinda thin and fried from all the years of dying.she put red paste and yellow paste on my forehead and stuck three grains of rice to it while it was still moist.one of the colors(i dont remember which)represented the heavens, one the earthly realm, and the rice was for prosperity.the service consisted of singing and she and others recounting their experiences with a man/god they lived with in india named “babaji”.she said he would constantly change his physical appearence to be different ages like he could be 20 or an old man and everthing in between and also if you rubbed his feet a charge would come out of them into you. im not sure what i thought but i felt thes e people were genuinely kind and trustworthy.I gave them a donation.afterwards i gave nina a bootleg tape a friend had made of a nirvana concert because i know she likes them. she gave me an orange that she said was “blessed food” because it had been used as an offering in the service. i ate the orange but i did not want to throw away the peel but the only thing i had to put it in was a plastic bag and in a few days it was covered with mold so i buried it. i am very shy and do not have much nerve to talk to people i admire alot but have never met before but i felt very comfortable around her. i was hoping id see her again sometime but that was it. |

I recently saw Nina at the benefit concert for refugee children, where she performed a few songs and basically addressed and said hello to all religions by singing songs addressing them… I am a psychic, and i do a lot of nrg work. On this show in particular with Nina. Towards the end of the show. I telepathed to her (she is a great telepather), “hello nina, i would like to meet you after the show is that okay?” and she told me she was in agreement to that and sent out a piink bubble into the auditoriium showing me what door she would come out of if i wanted to meet her. (basically first come first talk if u have ever met her you would remember this). Soooooooo…….to make a long story short, i went there, and there she was! i got to meet her again. | moritz mescher in stuttgart, germany | I sighted Nina on her latest concert in Hamburg, Germany last friday (13th march 98).She did an charity concert with lots of guests, 3 days after her 43th birthday. I met her already several times in the last years (but it was always just a short meeting), this time i also met her mother (Eva-Maria) and her kids (Cosma & Otis). Later we had a nice chat, but she was really tired of all the interviews she did after the show and the charity-selling of personal things (i get her tiny make-up mirror with a funny picture of her and Otis in a Fotobox in St.Monica, showing Clinton & Gore in the back – but the best is pushing a button on the mirror and you can hear “you’re smile is beautiful !”) Also i get a nice wooden plate with a picture of her and Sri Muniraji doing an morning chandran (some kind of prayer). Really sad is that one of the films in my camera didn’t work (no transportation of the film) – this means that all of the personal backstage snapshots are lost. And ! ! really hard for me is, that at the time we where talking a TV-team made recordings and it was shown on TV (just Nina and me sitting together & talking) one day later, while i was travelling back from Hamburg. This was a tiny club with a small dancefloor in the center, an 8’x8′ stage was set up at one end with a curtain behind the stage. She performed for well over an hour and a half. Then every once and a while she would dart behind the curtain and she would reappear with a totally different outfit . I think that she had a total of about 9 costume changes during that show.I was impressed because she cared enough about her fans and her craft to put on a real show, regardless of the size of the venue. | |

At the time I was a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). I had decided to go out and preach Christ in this form partially because of the huge impact on me of the album NUNSEXMONKROCK…”Well I believe in Jesus! I preach it loud and stark!” “God…He was here on our planet…” “He is a scientist, a real believer in antiwords and antimeaning…” etc. I will never forget sitting on my girlfriend’s bathroom floor in the dark with the headphones on hearing…all that, what I’d never heard or conceived of before. NUNSEXMONKROCK was like scripture to me. So when I heard she was going to be performing in Vancouver, I had to go even though it was against the mission rules. It was a good show. Her voice was a little weak on the operatic sections of, say, New York, New York, and she seemed to be doing a lot of the rougher songs ’cause all she could do was growl and roar. Her then 15-yr-old husband-to-be was standing off stage with his mohawk.I went on the mission after having wandered into the desert with a head full of psychedelics looking for ufos…which I never found. I have just repurchased NUNSEXMONKROCK. I bought it to show to my new boyfriend who was totally unimpressed, saying it sounded cheesy and dated (!!). Kids these days. Anyway, for me it’s like running into an old friend. I have every intelligible word and then some, as well as every note memorized. I loved FEARLESS as well, and some of IN EKSTASY, but that new single, SO BAD, is so lame, and I don’t really think of her too much anymore. She’s back in the studio, and she said she’s very frustrated with BMG right now. She announced from ths stage at the Viper Room that the CD will be out “some day” — I got the impression it won’t be until spring of ’98. (boo-hoo) However, she’ll have a Christmas song on the Rodney Biggenheimer compilation that’s coming out next month (?). I guess that will have to keep us satisfied until her new CD.I spoke to her for a while after the show at the Teatricum Botanicum, and she remembered me from a letter I wrote her last May. She was very friendly, and gave me her phone number and asked me to call her to talk about a certain person who ripped her off. Saturday chatted with Nina at the Benefit Concert and Shri Muniraji Tea. Had the opportunity to listen to some amazing music including a new song written for a friend. She is so absolutely sweet it is unbelievable. Cant wait for the new album which is supposed to be released in Germany in Autumn and English in Spring of Next year. | russ from long ago and far away | id like to report a nina sighting in the san francisco bay area this past friday saturday sunday. she appeared to be swiming in a sea of un worthy food subtitutes and favor asking groopies. nina was looking and sounding magical.at several locations.surprises plus fun was and or had been enjoyed by most of all humans and artists that traveled from near and far to get to see plus hear her or so i was told . so says me thanks nina please come back soon my friend.also one more sighting was at the corner geary and mason st eye whitness as in a couple of couple dozen whitnesses a strange object or person {nina{ riding a pink dolphin out from under the street into a fog filled sky singing my sweet lord. you should have seen her! wow! | |

| Helena in Brisbane, Australia | I have frequent Nina sightings in my dreams.I had a bizarre and beautiful Nina sighting in my head somewhere between consciousness and a dream.Nina and i where dancing some kind of ritual we were dressed identically in lime green reptilian catsuits with iridescent pink lipstick and gorgeous black and green eye make-up.We were in some kind of stone temple.There were candles and incense and wonderful music playing,all clinking bells,mantra’s and sitar’s.We were spinning in a wild dervish,heads filled with long luscious medusa type dred locked ringlets.Thats all I remembered but it was such a beautiful image.When I woke up I felt all calm and woderful.It was great to see you again Nina!Feel free to visit my dreams any time*Nina our soul sister goddess* |
| River in Northern California | Ive seen Nina on Sevearl occasions the most recent, when she performed in a play about Anita Berber in San Francisco. It was great to see her and she looked well. The play did not provide enough opportunities for Nina to display her talents.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Before that, my band opened for her in Dan Diego. She was Great!! She did a stunning stage dive Right on top of my sour-pussed guitar player. Several people groped and tried to cop feels but I protected our Nina from the opportunists. She may not have appreciated my help Because she said” beetlejuice” Upon Meeting me. I think she was still mad about me not being able to f ufill a kARMIC Aggreement. I wish I had ! |

I was there to see her show and was I surprised when Nina came through the front door instead of the backstage door. Anyway, when she walked in I touched her arm and said hello and she said hello back. The next time I saw her was more than I could have dreamed. It was at F.M. Station in North Hollywood, also there to see her show with Snap Her. It was also Nina’s birthday. Before she came onstage, she was out on the floor watching the opening band, so I went over to wish her a happy birthday and say hello with my friend, Janet. For some reason, Nina was quite taken with Janet, saying how beautiful she was, Janet felt the same way about Nina. Janet got us an invite back stage after the show. | russ on Planet Earth (for now) | I saw Nina somewhere in the heavens as I astrally projected myself up onto the comet called Halle-Boppe. Nina is doing fine and sends her love. She told me that people have to be kind if they wish to see her incarnate on this planet. There has been much unrest among her fans lately and she wishes this would cease. She considers herself and her fans a family and does not understand why her fans in America do not act as they do in Germany. Nina will be filling out the final papers for her Green Card on Friday May 22nd and would like to have a party with all of her fans if they are nice. What the world needs now is LOVE, SWEET LOVE! | Italo in Florida | I was travelling through Europe in May of 1994. Upon arriving in Amsterdam, I found out that Nina would be appearing at the Paradiso. I got a ticket right away and made arrangements to extend my stay in Amsterdam. Her show was, of course, awesome. The venue was an old, gothic church that had been restored as a concert hall. She sang many old songs and many from “Revolution Ballroom”, which had been just released. I was right up front and took lots of pictures. I was even able to aquire a can of “Aquarius” brand sportdrink that Nina had drunk from during the show. I still have it to this day. By the way, the can is slightly crushed from her tight grip. | |
